Hot Stone*
Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones may be placed at specific sites on your body or used as an extension of the therapist hands to enhance and "melt" the muscles deepening relaxation and promoting circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much deeper and quicker than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating. This is generally incorporated in with another massage such as Swedish, deep tissue or intuitive massage as an extension on the therapist hands. Drinking water before and after your massage helps to increase blood flow and avoid feeling run down or sore after the massage. The heat from a hot stone massage can dehydrate your muscles, much like sitting in a hot tub or sauna, so drink up!
Ages 18 and up only.
What’s the purpose of a Hot Stone Massage?
Using the stones as an extension of the hand, the strokes are long and soothing, melting the tension with each pass of the stone. This is an excellent way to warm up tight muscles and prepare the body for deeper work. A hot stone massage is also used as a tool to target those tense, crunchy areas while melting the muscle. This allows for deeper work that isn’t as painful and can even help extend the results of the massage.
Is a Hot Stone Massage Right for Me?
Hot stone massages are not recommended for those with decreased sensation or inability to feel heat, as it may lead to burns. Some conditions may be exacerbated by the stones. Common conditions that may be affected negatively affected by heat include: diabetes, multiple sclerosis, eczema, varicose veins, pregnancy, heart conditions, and blood disorders to name a few. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
Cold Stone
Same as Hot Stone only these stones used are kept very cold. Excellent for reducing inflammation and cooling down during the summer heat.
